l'ocre - the ochre - the concept

The richest deposits of ochre in France are found in the Calavon river valley, between the mountains Vaucluse and the massif of Luberon. The quarries lie between the towns of Roussillon, Apt and Rustrel, where once the Romans dug their ochre.

Here the mineral mix of quartz and ochre contains up to 90 % ochre in a wide and varied palette.

The ochre soil for this project was taken mainly from the quarries of Roussillon and Rustrel. The produced Terragraphics show the 16 most characteristic nuances of colours in this area.
