From 1937 to 1945, 6 million Jews were murdered by the National Socialists and their accomplices. The SHOA project shall commemorate those victims.
For this purpose, SOIL is being collected at 25 selected locations in Europe. These sites are representative for all the places, where Jews were assassinated during the Holocaust.
Each excavation site is documented by a photograph of the sky, the EARTH, and the four directions, as well as the geographical position determined by GPS.
For the first time, the resulting terragraphics of one square meter each are worked in the fresco technique. Thus the purity of the SOIL remains unaltered.
The frescoes are intended to be integrated into a building, either existing or constructed for the purpose. The composition of the installation will be determined by the historical and architectural traits of these premises.
The option to install further frescoes of this project at other locations is intended and was part of the initial concept.
The stringent concept and the abstract design of the work will allow a space for the viewer's associations, where he can develop his own individual examination of the Holocaust.
