Following the advice of Duane Stevens from Rangely, we took the road to the upper entrance to Cottonwood Creek Canyon, which led us through the hot desert along gorges, rocks and mountains. The deteriorating road meandered downhill, often leading through a dry riverbed. We were able to cross two difficult passages, before a rock that might have been mastered with a cross-country vehicle, forced us to turn around.

I did not want to give up and tried to go uphill from the point where the creek flows into White River. That solution brought us almost exactly to the site. I only had to walk over 300 meters of hot marsh land covered by bushes and cross the dry river bed to dig up the EARTH exactly at the defined site. Eventhough I carefully watched out, I didn't encounter any rattle snakes.
