When we started out the next morning, the sky was black and lightning flashed. That was a bad sign since I knew we had to travel along gravel roads to reach our goal.
But we were lucky. When we reached Butte Valley, the weather had brightened up and the roads were in good condition. The wide, beautiful valley we traveled along for quite some time contains only three ranches and a Native American Reservation, which we did not see, however.
A two-hour walk brought us directly to the site located between two hills at the bottom of the valley.
