My maps indicated various paths into the wooded mountains south of Feather River, whose deep and impressive gorge features a road and the Northern Pacific Railway.
We failed to reach the site from Twain below, but from Keddie at the top there was a paved road leading into the wood. Here we found Lori and Keith who described the correct way through the maze of forest paths. Finally, we only had to work our way for about 300 meters uphill, without a path and through the thicket to reach the site.
