KOKOWAI, The Sacred Red of the Maori

a portfolio containing 10 Terragraphics.

Half of the red clay for this project comes from the Waipoua forest of AOTEAROA, the North Island of New Zealand, where the Te Roroa live. Here some of the Kauri trees can grow up to be 2000 years old and can have a circumference of up to 25 meters.

The other half five comes from the East and West cast of New Zealand which the Kai Tahu call WAIPOUNAMU.

The Terragraphics, size 20 x 20 cm, were printed by the artist with KOKOWAI on Fabriano Disegno 350 g in an edition of 11 Arabic and 3 Roman numbered copies. Each sheet is numbered, signed with an imprint and has a registered number on the back. The portfolio is hand signed.

The 5 pages accompanying text tells the story of the origin of Kokowai in the tradition of the North Island tribes and the story of Maukoroa told by the Kai Tahu from the South Island.

The text is also available in English.
