Mountain Meadow

Top Flat

Routt National Forest

Colorado

26.7.2001 - 9:00

Contrary to Dwight’s forecast, who had spent his entire life in this valley of table mountains, it did start to rain that night. We were able to travel by car along the forest roads to a height of more than 3000 meters. After that, the GPS indicated a distance of another 2 km to the site. Accompanied by heavy rain, we followed deer paths cross-country through woods, over pastures, marsh, and creeks. We climbed over the first fence we encountered, but had to finally give up when we reached a second, higher fence and the rain had still not decreased. We were 250 meters away from our intended site.

With utmost caution, we slid downhill with the car and finally reached the road. One hour later, this would have been impossible.
