Meeker, a tiny village at White River surrounded by mountains, was named after the Native American agent who was killed around 1860 by the starving Ute during a revolt.

It was here I tried to get information on the owner of the ground surrounding the site. Joe, a land surveyor, told me the name of the presumable owner and warned me of the abundant rattle snakes.

Later that evening we reached the ground located only a few miles out of Meeker. At a house situated on a hill we were greeted by barking dogs. Reed and Kathleen Kelley came out and calmed them down. We quickly were on friendly terms and agreed on digging up the EARTH the next morning.

Kathleen took us and several of her dogs in her land rover to the pasture where we dug up the EARTH. Afterwards, we visited the beautiful Apaloosa-horses belonging to the ranch. We did not see one of the mountain lions living here.
