Earth Art Work-Nº 460

Stone Field

Fort Sage Mountains

Lassen County

California

10.8.2001 - 11:00

with the help of Roy Johnson

A black wall of smoke stood menacingly over the mountain ridge of Fort Sage Mountains, where the site was located. The night before, a lightning had caused an extensive fire at the northern side of the mountains. Therefore we had to be careful and quick to avoid being caught in the fire should it turn to the southern side.

This knowledge, however, was completely pushed to the back of our mind by the strenuous journey across the steep mountain ridge in the blazing sun. Without a path, we fought our way to the site close to the ridge.

The fire stayed in the North and for the way back, we found a mustang trail that brought us to the valley a lot faster.
