The Depth

2023

Material for this project is being extracted from eight different geological formations and geological eras dating back 27 to 243 million years and originating from depths of 1,000 to 3,800 metres.

The subject of this terragraphy project is the geothermal development project in Graben-Neudorf in the Upper Rhine Valley, currently the most advanced project by Deutsche ErdWärme and the hottest geothermal borehole in Germany.

Temperatures of over 160 degrees Celsius are expected in the reservoir located in the red sandstone. These are ideal conditions for the construction of a geothermal plant that can produce both electricity and heat.
