Aotearoa - the land of long abiding light is the Maori name for New Zealand because in HAWAIKI, their mythical land of origin located in the tropics, a long twilight between day and night was unknown.
From there, they crossed the Pacific in their canoes 1,000 years ago and settled on this island. Perhaps it was precisely because of their daring voyages across the vast expanse of the ocean that they had a very special relationship with the EARTH, which meant salvation and life. This finds its special expression in the Maori creation mythology, which is a love story between Papa-tu-a-nuku, Mother EARTH, and Rangi-nui, the sky.
It was this fascinating love story that ultimately prompted me to travel to New Zealand, the country on the other side of the world, in the spring of 1996. With this plan, I left Europe for the first time, where I had previously gained 216 EARTHs in various projects from several countries. In doing so, I wanted to get a little closer to the conceivable goal of creating a complete, objective image of the EARTH, and I have indeed done so.
