Der Gornergletscher

Der Gornergletscher ist nach dem Aletschgletscher der zweitgrößte Gletscher der Schweiz.
Er erstreckt sich über eine Länge von rund 12 km und bedeckt eine Fläche von etwa 40 km².
Auf einer Höhe von etwa 2.200 bis über 4.600 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel unterhalb des Monte-Rosa-Massivs gelegen, gehört er zu den spektakulärsten Alpenlandschaften der Welt.
Am 12. September 2021 gewann ich hier ERDE für das GLETSCHER-Projekt.

Landslide

in the Dolomites

On 3 July 2022, a massive block of ice broke off in the upper part of the glacier and crashed down into the valley as an ice avalanche. It fell directly in line with the glacier tongue where I collected soil samples for the GLETSCHER project on 10 September 2021.
