Kromdraai
The first Terragraphy of the triptych originates from Kromdraai, the first goldmine on the Witwatersrand, which was licensed in 1885. The material was excavated by Ekkeland Goetze from the main tunnel of the mine.

Western Deep Levels
The material for the second Terragraphy comes from the Western Deep Levels West Mine. Through three different shafts the men reach a depth of 3777 metres below the surface. This is the deepest manmade point on earth with a temperature of 52° C. In order to make work possible the shift is frigded to 27… 32° C, at a higher temperature the miners have to leave the place. The material saw the light of day on the 26th of March 1998, and contains about 8 grams of gold per ton.

Johannesburg Gold Mine Dump
The third Terra-graphy was created with material excavated from a dump of the Village Main Reef Gold Mining Co. Ltd. (1934). Should the world gold price allow, gold could be extracted for a second time.
