After a three day journey, close to the Bay de Los Angeles, they found a thermal source called Adac which belonged to the land of the Cochimí. The water stank of sulphur but resulted drinkable when it cooled down. Father Retz had a road built to Adac and the place was declared Visita, with a church, housing facilities, as well as warehouses and a hospital.
A generous donation made by the Spanish Duchess María de Borja, allowed Father Wenceslaus Linck to inaugurate the new mission in September 1762. The mission became very successful, as hundreds of new baptized members joined within the next few years. In spite of cultivating crops and vine, the mission had to be supplied by sea from the Bay of Los Angeles. Due to this only 40 to 50 families remained living there, the others taking over evangelization tasks in the other Jesuit missions.

Following the expulsion of the Jesuits, the mission remained in the hands of the Franciscans, to be passed over to the Dominicans from 1775 to 1816. It was closed in 1818 out of lack of population.

The now restored stone Church goes back to 1801, corresponding to its Dominican period. In the north wall remains of the original church can be seen.
