Here, between 1724 and 1726, around 2000 natives were baptized, but like in many other missions of Baja California, it experienced the same fate: the spreading of viral diseases devastated the population and plagues of locusts destroyed the harvest provoking starvation. Some natives were forced to eat those insects in order to survive. 
Reports of the year 1744 praised the church of Nuestra Señora as the most beautiful one of California. However, due to torrential storms, that very year one of the church walls collapsed, causing the death of 100 churchgoers. In 1795 during the Dominican period, the mission was abandoned and the few resting followers were sent to the mission La Purisima.

In 2014 only a few stone walls, rests of the church foundations built in 1744 and some remainders of the watering system in a palm tree garden, could be seen.
