The mission of Calamajué, north of San Borja, could not be maintained due to iron sulphur present in the water, making any sort of farming impossible. In their search for a new site, the Cochimí took Father Victoriano Arnés to a place they called Kabujakaamang. In this small grove with potable water sources, the Mission Santa Maria de los Ángeles Kabujakaamang was founded. It was the last Jesuit mission to be established.

A church, housing and other facilities were built with adobe. The supply came from the Bay of San Luis Gonzaga 20 km east.

Only seven months later, the Jesuits had to abandon Mexico following an order of the Spanish King.

Today, one would have to follow a 7 km foot march through extremely harsh terrain, in order to reach this isolated mission.
