Fourteen years as Father Johann-Jakob Baegert reached this isolated place, the mission had almost been destroyed by a hurricane. Baegert undertook the reconstruction of its church with more resistant materials like pink stone and slated roof. In its most splendid times the mission could welcome up to 500 natives of different ethnicities but it never managed to become self-sufficient. The year 1768 marked its closure, as well as the moving of its 310 members to the Mission of Santa Rosa de las Palmas (Todos Santos), almost 200 km away.

Nowadays, the church built by Father Johann-Jakob Baegert, as well as remains of the irrigation system, can still be seen.

Baegert published his memories as a missionary in Baja California (News of the American Peninsula California) in 1771 in Manheim, Germany. He describes the natives, their way of living and the flora and fauna of this country without shadows.
